Bathe in a unique experience at Peninsula Hot Springs
Posted in Arts and CultureImagine laying in warm 10,000-year-old waters, listening - through underwater speakers or above - to a healing performance. Imagine being surrounded by the sounds of birds, wind and water, while you take in musicians from around the world celebrating wellness, health and connection.
That’s what Peninsula Hot Springs is all about. Connection. Connection to nature and a deep sense of wellbeing. There is a long heritage of creative practice, cultural respect and innovation held on this site. It has been quite a journey over the past twenty years.
In July 2018, Peninsula Hot Springs revealed an outdoor amphitheatre adjacent to seven new thermal hot spring pools, new saunas, an ice cave, a Wellness centre and an extensive food bowl. The new expanded site opened the possibility to offer guests engagement and inspiration through art, culture and performance, combined with thermal hot springs bathing.
One Social Lamb was engaged to complete an in-depth strategic plan to outline a new model of contemporary art and cultural experience activation (performances, artist residencies, incubators and workshops) for the site.
Through discussions with existing and new creative cultural partners, extensive research and a comparison of successful models around the globe, the Arts, Culture, Events and Entertainment (ACEE) Strategic Plan was prepared and delivered. A new team was formed to engage artists, creatives and practitioners to bring contemporary art and cultural experiences to light - inviting the world to take part in transformational experiences. The implementation of the strategic plan followed with an exclusive, first-of-its-kind sunset concert highlighting young world-class musicians to open the program on January 11, 2019.
Bach & Bathe featured the Peninsula Summer Music Festival Quartet; orchestral musicians who have played in 27 countries. The quartet came together to connect in a distinctive way with its audience.

Violinist Jessica Oddie said of the terraced pools surrounding the amphitheatre stage: “It’s an incredibly special space. I think it provides an opportunity for us to connect to the audience in a unique way that we’re not able to in concert venues, and enables the audience to connect with the music in a way that they’re probably not able to in a three-piece suit. The fusion of classical music and the baths is going to be a stunning experience.”
“When I visited last week and entered the grounds, I was immediately struck by a very special feeling and mood in the spaces and also in the people; I could sense transformations in the bathers, because of the beautiful nature that they’re experiencing, the intimacy and the healing the hot springs provides them.”
Jessica anticipated enabling a “wonderful connection and engagement with our audience” and nature. And they certainly did just that. It was a magial evening and a welcome start to a program for art, performance and practice.
